Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How far in advance should I place my order?

A: For small cakes, which require customization and design, we recommend reaching out at least 3 weeks in advance. Smaller orders (cookies & cupcakes) can usually be accommodated with 1 week’s notice, but earlier is always better to ensure availability.

Q: Do you deliver?

A: Yes, with limitations. We want our products to reach as many people as possible! For those who need it, delivery price is based on the distance between our kitchen and your preferred delivery location. The cost will be added to your invoice and must be paid in advance. We deliver at limited times - please include information about delivery preferences when reaching out about your order.

Q: Are all of your products free from the top 9 allergens?

A: Every item we make is prepared without cow’s milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, sesame, fish, and shellfish. We do use coconut in our kitchen (but we will not use coconut in your order if you do not want us to!). We work closely with each customer to avoid any other allergens you or your loved ones may have. No food establishment is able to guarantee that their products are completely free from allergens.

Q: Can you make custom designs or themed treats?

A: We love bringing your vision to life — whether it’s for a birthday party, school event, or an elegant wedding dessert table. When you reach out to us to place your order, please share your vision! Note that we do not use fondant, so some designs may not be possible. We also do not replicate trademarked characters.

Q: Do you offer vegan or gluten-free options?

A: Yes, in fact all of our goods are naturally vegan and free from gluten since they are made without the top 9 allergens.

Q: How should I store my treats?

A: Items will generally stay fresh in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days. Many items can also be frozen - please inquire with us for freezing/thawing instructions.

Q: What’s the best way to transport my baked goods if I am picking up?

A: Keep your Sonflour Goods flat, level, and out of direct sunlight during transport. Place cakes and cupcakes on the floor of your car or in the trunk, rather than on a seat, to prevent sliding. Avoid leaving treats in your car for longer than the duration of your drive, and drive carefully! We will package your order for safe travel, but careful handling makes ALL the difference.

Q: What is a ‘cottage food’ business?

A: In Georgia, a cottage food business is one that prepares food for direct-to-consumer sale out of the domestic kitchen of the owner’s domestic home. You may also hear this referred to as “home kitchen food.” You can read more about Georgia cottage food laws at the Georgia Department of Agriculture’s (GDA’s) website: https://agr.georgia.gov/cottage-food

In 2025, the Georgia Department of Agriculture stopped requiring or issuing licenses for cottage food businesses after the passing of House Bill 398. Cottage food business operators are still required to follow extensive GDA requirements including clear item labeling, food handler certification, and other important rules.

Cottage food businesses take many forms. Sonflour Goods is a limited liability company (LLC) and is fully insured by the Food Liability Insurance Program (FLIP). We are ServSafe certified (Food Handler training and Allergen training - certificates available upon request).
