Allergy & Safety Information

Your safety is our top priority. Every treat from Sonflour Goods is made with care and strict safety practices so you can celebrate with confidence.

Our Kitchen Practices

  • We bake in a home kitchen, in keeping with Georgia’s cottage law, where we control every ingredient that comes through the door.

  • All ingredients and supplies used for the bakery are completely separate from household items and are stored in dedicated, locked spaces.

  • We schedule baking times so that only one set of recipes is in process at a time, reducing risk of cross-contact.

  • We are ServSafe® and ServSafe-Allergen® certified and follow evidence-based, up-to-date practices (e.g., triple sanitization) to keep your food safe.

How We Work

  • Custom orders are just that—custom! We work to accommodate your and your guests’ allergies. In this way, we do not call ourselves “a top-9 free bakery,” because we acknowledge that the foods that some customers are allergic to are other customers’ favorite foods. We also know that allergies go beyond the top 9, and we are ready to accommodate your needs.

  • Bulk orders, for example, foods we sell at farmer’s markets, or special holiday pick-up orders, are baked without all top 9 allergens - milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, fish, shellfish, and sesame. Our bulk orders are therefore naturally vegan/celiac-safe.

Ingredient Sourcing

  • All ingredients are carefully sourced from trusted suppliers with clear labeling and transparency.

  • Questions about ingredients are not only welcome, but wanted! Your safety is our top priority (followed very, very closely by taste and visual appeal).

Why This Matters

As a food allergy mom, I know firsthand the anxiety that can come with eating outside your own kitchen. That’s why I’ve built Sonflour Goods on transparency, trust, and open communication. If you ever have a questions about ingredients, preparation, or cross-contact prevention measures, just ask! I’m always happy to share details so you can feel safe and enjoy the celebration.

Customers sometimes ask - why not just go completely top-9 free? The answer to that is informed by my day job as a public health researcher. In a recent study in which I interviewed parents of children with food allergies and other disabilities, parents noted that completely banning some allergens (think peanut bans in schools) created additional challenges for their children who, due to sensory needs and allergies, can only eat 3 or 4 safe foods (sometimes including peanuts). Sonflour Goods does not prioritize any one allergen over another. So, we call ourselves “allergy-friendly” to maximize inclusivity and safety for all conditions.

Note: While we go above and beyond to prevent cross-contact, please remember that no kitchen can be 100% guaranteed allergen-free. I am committed to doing everything possible to keep you and your loved ones safe.
